Band 7 Writing: The Real Meaning
কিন্তু IELTS Writing-এ score বাড়ে control দিয়ে—language control, idea control, structure control, and time control.
In simple words, Band 7 Writing is not about showing off English. It is about writing clearly, accurately, and academically.

Band 7 Writing Strategy in One Sentence
Band 7 IELTS Writing পেতে হলে আপনাকে প্রতিটি answer-এ এই ৪টি জিনিস নিশ্চিত করতে হবে:
Clear position + logical paragraphing + relevant development + accurate language
Result? Answer সুন্দর হলেও question-এর সাথে fully match করে না.
Task 2 question দেখলে আগে ৩টি জিনিস identify করুন:
Topic – বিষয়টা কী নিয়ে?
Task – আপনাকে কী করতে বলা হয়েছে? Agree/disagree, discuss both views, advantage/disadvantage, problem-solution?
Limit – question কি specific group, time, place বা situation mention করেছে?
Example:
Question:
Some people believe that university education should be free for all students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
এখানে topic হলো university education cost. Task হলো opinion দেওয়া. আপনার essay যদি general education নিয়ে হয়, তাহলে score কমবে। আপনাকে specifically university education free হওয়া উচিত কিনা—এটা answer করতে হবে.
Strategy 2: Task 2 Thesis Clear করুন
Band 7 essay-তে introduction-এর শেষে thesis clear থাকতে হবে. Examiner যেন প্রথম paragraph পড়েই বুঝতে পারেন আপনি কী argue করছেন.
Weak thesis:
“I will discuss this topic in this essay.”
Better thesis:
“I largely agree that university education should be free, especially for low-income students, because it can improve social mobility and reduce inequality.”
এই thesis clear, specific, and argumentative.
আরেকটি example:
“I believe online learning is useful for flexibility, but it cannot fully replace classroom education because students still need interaction, discipline, and real-time feedback.”
এখানে balanced opinion আছে. Band 7 writing-এ opinion vague হলে চলবে না.
Strategy 3: Body Paragraph = Idea Development, Not Idea Listing
Band 6 essay সাধারণত idea list করে। Band 7 essay idea develop করে.
Follow this paragraph formula:
Topic Sentence + Explanation + Example + Result
Example:
“Regular feedback is essential for IELTS Writing improvement because many students cannot identify their own repeated mistakes. For example, a learner may write several essays with unclear thesis statements without realising that this affects Task Response. When a trained teacher points out the issue and shows how to rewrite the introduction, the learner can improve faster and avoid repeating the same error.”
Weak overview:
“Overall, there are many changes.”
Better overview:
“Overall, car usage increased significantly over the period, while the proportion of people using bicycles declined. Public transport remained relatively stable, despite minor fluctuations.”
এখানে main trends clear. Examiner বুঝবেন আপনি graph-এর big picture ধরেছেন.
Task 1 Overview Checklist
Task 1 answer লেখার আগে নিজেকে জিজ্ঞেস করুন:
সবচেয়ে বড় change কী?
highest/lowest category কোনটা?
কোন figure increase/decrease করেছে?
map হলে কী built, removed, replaced, expanded হয়েছে?
process হলে starting and ending stage কী?
Task 1-এ সব number লিখতে যাবেন না. Selective data use করুন.
Strategy 5: Vocabulary Advanced করুন, কিন্তু Natural রাখুন
Band 7 vocabulary মানে rare word না. Band 7 vocabulary মানে accurate word choice and natural collocation.
Instead of writing:
many people → a large number of people
big problem → a major challenge
good result → a positive outcome
bad effect → a harmful consequence
help students → support learners’ academic progress
very important → highly significant
people think → it is widely believed that
তবে unnecessary complicated words use করবেন না. Example:
Wrong:
“Education is a paramountly magnificent instrument for the amelioration of societal circumstances.”
Better:
“Education is one of the most effective ways to improve social and economic opportunities.”
IELTS Writing-এ natural academic English বেশি valuable.
Strategy 6: Grammar Range দেখান, কিন্তু Risky Sentence Avoid করুন
Band 7 পেতে হলে complex sentence দরকার, কিন্তু overlong sentence দরকার নেই. Many students long sentence লিখতে গিয়ে grammar error বাড়ায়.
Use controlled structures:
Although structure:
“Although online education is convenient, it may not provide the same level of interaction as classroom learning.”
Relative clause:
“Students who receive regular feedback are more likely to improve their writing accuracy.”
Conditional sentence:
“If learners analyse their mistakes consistently, they can make faster progress.”
Cause-effect structure:
“This can reduce motivation, which may eventually affect academic performance.”
Grammar-এর goal হলো flexibility + accuracy. If complex sentence লিখে meaning unclear হয়, তাহলে simple sentence better.
Strategy 7: Cohesion মানে শুধু Firstly, Secondly না
Coherence and Cohesion score improve করতে হলে paragraph flow natural করতে হবে. Linking words helpful, but overusing them makes writing mechanical.
Common linking words:
however
therefore
as a result
for example
in contrast
in addition
this means that
this is because
as a consequence
Better cohesion আসে যখন আপনার ideas logically connected থাকে.
Example:
“Many students struggle with IELTS Writing because they rarely receive feedback. This means they continue making the same mistakes in grammar, structure, and idea development. As a result, their score remains stuck even after months of practice.”
এখানে connection natural. শুধু linking words না, idea progression-ও clear.

Essay 1 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that children should be paid for doing household chores. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Many parents encourage their children to help with household chores such as cleaning, washing dishes, or gardening. Some people believe that children should receive money for completing these tasks, while others think helping at home should be considered a responsibility rather than a paid job. I partially agree with the idea of rewarding children, but I do not think every household chore should be linked to money.
On the one hand, paying children for certain tasks can teach them valuable life skills. They learn that earning money requires effort and responsibility, which helps them appreciate its value from an early age. Moreover, children may become more motivated to complete their tasks carefully if they know they will receive a reward. They can also learn basic financial management by saving or budgeting the money they earn.
On the other hand, paying children for every household responsibility may create the wrong attitude. They might begin to expect payment whenever they help their parents, even for simple family responsibilities. In reality, family members should support one another without always expecting a reward. Household chores also teach discipline, teamwork, and responsibility, which are important values beyond financial benefits.
In my opinion, parents should encourage children to help with daily chores as part of family life while occasionally rewarding them for extra responsibilities or outstanding effort. This balanced approach teaches both responsibility and the value of money.
In conclusion, although paying children for some household tasks has educational benefits, basic family responsibilities should not always be associated with financial rewards.
Essay 2 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think museums should be free to enter, while others believe visitors should pay an entrance fee. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Museums play an important role in preserving history and educating the public. While some people believe they should be free for everyone, others argue that charging an entrance fee is necessary. In my opinion, museums should remain affordable, but charging a reasonable fee is acceptable.
Those who support free admission argue that museums are educational institutions rather than commercial businesses. Everyone, regardless of their financial situation, should have the opportunity to learn about history, science, and culture. Free entry would encourage more students and families to visit museums, increasing public knowledge and cultural awareness.
However, maintaining museums is expensive. Historic buildings, valuable collections, and professional staff require continuous funding. Entrance fees provide an important source of income that helps museums preserve exhibits, improve facilities, and organise educational programmes. Without sufficient financial support, many museums may struggle to maintain their services.
In my opinion, visitors should pay a modest entrance fee while students, children, and senior citizens receive discounts or free admission. This approach ensures museums remain financially sustainable while remaining accessible to the public.
In conclusion, although free admission would increase public access, reasonable entrance fees are necessary to maintain high-quality museums and preserve valuable historical collections.
Essay 3 (Problem & Solution)
Question
Many cities are facing serious water shortages. What are the causes of this problem, and what solutions can be implemented?
Sample Answer
Water shortages have become a major concern in many cities around the world. Rapid population growth and climate change have increased pressure on available water resources. Unless immediate action is taken, this problem is likely to become even more severe.
One of the main causes is the increasing demand for fresh water. Growing populations require more water for drinking, agriculture, and industrial production. At the same time, climate change has resulted in irregular rainfall and prolonged droughts in many regions, reducing available water supplies. Another contributing factor is the wasteful use of water in homes, factories, and farms.
Several measures can help solve this problem. Governments should invest in modern water management systems and repair leaking pipelines that waste enormous amounts of clean water every year. Public awareness campaigns can also encourage people to conserve water by taking shorter showers, fixing leaking taps, and using water-efficient appliances. In agriculture, farmers should adopt advanced irrigation techniques that use less water while maintaining crop production.
Furthermore, governments should promote rainwater harvesting and recycling systems to reduce dependence on natural freshwater sources.
In conclusion, water shortages are mainly caused by rising demand, climate change, and inefficient water use. Through better infrastructure, public education, and sustainable water management, cities can significantly reduce this growing problem.
Essay 4 (Two-Part Question)
Question
More people are getting married later in life than in the past. Why is this happening? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer
The average age of marriage has increased considerably in many countries over recent decades. This change has been influenced by social and economic factors. In my opinion, although delayed marriage presents certain challenges, it is generally a positive development.
One reason for this trend is that many young adults now prioritise higher education and career development before starting a family. Establishing financial stability has become increasingly important due to rising living costs and housing prices. In addition, people have greater freedom to choose their lifestyles and no longer feel pressured to marry at a young age.
Delaying marriage can have several benefits. Couples who marry later are often more emotionally mature and financially secure, allowing them to make better long-term decisions. They are also more likely to have stable careers, reducing financial stress after marriage.
However, marrying later may create difficulties for people who wish to have children, as fertility naturally declines with age. Some individuals may also find it harder to adjust to married life after living independently for many years.
Overall, I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Mature relationships built on financial security and personal readiness are more likely to succeed than marriages entered into too early.
In conclusion, people are marrying later because of educational, professional, and economic reasons, and I consider this trend to be largely positive.
Essay 5 (Advantages Outweigh Disadvantages)
Question
Many companies are replacing human customer service representatives with AI chatbots. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Sample Answer
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in customer service, with many companies replacing human representatives with AI-powered chatbots. Although this trend has some disadvantages, I believe its advantages are greater overall.
One major advantage is that AI chatbots are available twenty-four hours a day. Customers can receive immediate responses without waiting for business hours or long telephone queues. Chatbots also reduce operating costs for businesses by handling routine enquiries efficiently, allowing human employees to focus on more complex tasks.
Another benefit is consistency. AI systems provide standardised information and can process thousands of customer requests simultaneously without becoming tired. This improves response times and increases customer satisfaction for simple issues such as tracking orders or answering frequently asked questions.
However, chatbots still have limitations. They often struggle to understand complicated problems or emotional situations where empathy is required. Customers facing technical issues or complaints may become frustrated if they cannot quickly speak to a human representative.
In my opinion, the most effective solution is to combine AI technology with human support. Chatbots should handle basic enquiries, while experienced staff deal with complex cases that require judgement and personal communication.
In conclusion, although AI chatbots cannot completely replace human customer service, their speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness make this a positive development overall.
Essay 6 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that schools should replace printed textbooks with digital books. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Technology has transformed many aspects of education, and digital books are becoming increasingly common in schools. While some people believe printed textbooks should be completely replaced by digital versions, I partially agree with this view because both formats have their own advantages.
Digital books offer several benefits. First, they are convenient because students can carry hundreds of books on a single tablet or laptop. This reduces the weight of school bags and makes learning materials easily accessible. In addition, digital books can be updated quickly, ensuring that students always have access to the latest information. They also include interactive features such as videos and quizzes, which can make learning more engaging.
However, traditional textbooks still play an important role in education. Many students find it easier to concentrate when reading printed materials because they are less likely to become distracted by notifications or other online activities. Furthermore, prolonged screen time may cause eye strain and headaches, especially among younger learners.
In my opinion, schools should adopt a balanced approach by using both digital and printed books. Digital resources can enhance learning, while printed textbooks remain valuable for focused reading and note-taking.
In conclusion, although digital books offer greater convenience and flexibility, printed textbooks should continue to be part of the education system.
Essay 7 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think zoos are important for protecting wildlife, while others believe animals should never be kept in captivity. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Zoos have existed for centuries, but their role in modern society remains controversial. While some people believe zoos are essential for wildlife conservation, others argue that animals should live freely in their natural habitats. In my opinion, well-managed zoos can play an important role in protecting endangered species.
Those who oppose zoos argue that keeping animals in cages is unethical. Wild animals are naturally adapted to large environments where they can hunt, explore, and interact freely. Living in confined spaces may cause stress and prevent them from displaying natural behaviour. Therefore, many people believe conservation efforts should focus on protecting natural habitats instead.
On the other hand, supporters believe zoos contribute significantly to wildlife conservation. Many endangered species have been successfully bred in captivity and later reintroduced into the wild. Zoos also educate millions of visitors about biodiversity and environmental protection, encouraging greater public awareness of conservation issues.
In my opinion, the quality of zoo management is the key factor. Poorly managed zoos should not exist, but modern conservation centres that prioritise animal welfare can make valuable contributions to protecting endangered wildlife.
In conclusion, although animals should ideally live in their natural environments, responsible zoos continue to play an important role in conservation and education.
Essay 8 (Problem & Solution)
Question
Many young people today experience high levels of stress. What are the causes of this problem, and what can be done to reduce it?
Sample Answer
Stress among young people has become an increasingly serious issue in many countries. Academic competition, career uncertainty, and social pressure have contributed to rising stress levels. Fortunately, several practical measures can help address this problem.
One major cause is intense academic pressure. Students often compete for limited university places and scholarships, forcing them to spend long hours studying. At the same time, many young adults worry about finding stable employment after graduation, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty.
Another factor is the influence of social media. Many young people compare themselves with others online, creating unrealistic expectations about success, appearance, and lifestyle. This constant comparison may lead to anxiety and reduced self-confidence.
To solve this problem, schools and universities should provide counselling services and organise workshops on stress management. Parents should also encourage open communication and avoid placing excessive pressure on their children. Additionally, young people should maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and limiting unnecessary use of social media.
In conclusion, academic competition and social pressure are the main causes of stress among young people. With support from families, educational institutions, and society, young people can manage stress more effectively.
Essay 9 (Two-Part Question)
Question
More people are choosing to work as freelancers instead of taking permanent jobs. Why is this happening? Is this a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer
Freelancing has become increasingly popular due to technological advances and changing workplace preferences. More professionals are choosing flexible work arrangements instead of traditional full-time employment. In my opinion, this is generally a positive development despite certain challenges.
One reason for the growth of freelancing is greater flexibility. Freelancers can choose their own working hours, clients, and projects, allowing them to maintain a better work-life balance. The internet has also created global opportunities, enabling professionals to work for companies located anywhere in the world.
However, freelancing also involves risks. Unlike permanent employees, freelancers often have irregular incomes and may not receive benefits such as paid leave, health insurance, or retirement plans. Finding new clients can also be difficult, especially for beginners.
Despite these disadvantages, I believe freelancing provides greater freedom and encourages entrepreneurship. Skilled professionals can earn competitive incomes while developing a wider range of experiences by working with different clients.
In conclusion, freelancing is becoming more popular because it offers flexibility and global opportunities. Although it presents financial uncertainty, I consider it a positive trend overall.
Essay 10 (Advantages Outweigh Disadvantages)
Question
More universities are offering degree programmes entirely online. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Sample Answer
Online degree programmes have become increasingly common as universities adopt modern educational technologies. While studying online presents certain challenges, I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
One significant advantage is accessibility. Students who live in remote areas or have full-time jobs can continue their education without relocating or leaving their employment. Online learning is often more affordable because students save money on accommodation, transportation, and other living expenses.
Another benefit is flexibility. Students can access recorded lectures and study materials whenever it is convenient, allowing them to learn at their own pace. This is particularly useful for adult learners balancing education with family or work responsibilities.
However, online education also has limitations. Students may feel isolated due to limited face-to-face interaction with teachers and classmates. Practical subjects that require laboratory work or hands-on training can also be difficult to teach entirely online.
Despite these drawbacks, advances in technology continue to improve virtual learning experiences. Video conferencing, online discussion forums, and interactive learning platforms have made distance education more effective than ever before.
In conclusion, although fully online degree programmes have certain disadvantages, their flexibility, affordability, and accessibility make them a valuable alternative to traditional university education.
Essay 11 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that governments should make public transport free for everyone. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Public transport plays a vital role in modern cities by helping millions of people travel every day. Some people argue that governments should make all public transport free of charge, while others believe passengers should continue paying fares. I partially agree with this proposal because free public transport offers several benefits, but it may not be financially sustainable.
One major advantage is that free public transport would encourage more people to leave their private cars at home. As a result, traffic congestion and air pollution could be significantly reduced. In addition, free transport would benefit low-income families, students, and elderly people by reducing their daily expenses and improving access to education and employment.
However, operating buses, trains, and metro systems requires substantial financial investment. If governments removed ticket prices entirely, they would need to cover maintenance, fuel, staff salaries, and infrastructure costs through higher taxes or reduced spending in other important sectors such as healthcare and education. Moreover, free services may become overcrowded if demand increases rapidly.
In my opinion, governments should provide discounted or free transport for specific groups rather than making it free for everyone. This approach would support those who need financial assistance while ensuring transport systems remain financially sustainable.
In conclusion, although free public transport offers social and environmental benefits, a targeted subsidy system is a more practical solution.
Essay 12 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think universities should focus on preparing students for employment, while others believe the purpose of university education is to provide knowledge for its own sake. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Universities play an important role in society, but opinions differ regarding their primary purpose. While some people believe higher education should prepare students for future careers, others argue that universities should focus on expanding knowledge and intellectual development. In my opinion, universities should achieve a balance between these two objectives.
Those who support career-focused education argue that students invest significant time and money in obtaining a degree. Therefore, universities should equip graduates with practical skills that employers require. Courses including internships, workplace training, and professional certifications improve graduates' chances of securing employment after completing their studies.
On the other hand, universities have traditionally been centres of research and intellectual exploration. Subjects such as philosophy, history, and literature encourage critical thinking, creativity, and cultural understanding. These disciplines contribute to society even though they may not lead directly to specific careers.
In my opinion, universities should combine academic knowledge with practical training. Students should develop both specialised professional skills and broader intellectual abilities that prepare them for lifelong learning.
In conclusion, while employment preparation is increasingly important, universities should continue to promote knowledge, research, and personal development alongside career-focused education.
Essay 13 (Cause & Effect)
Question
The number of people using bicycles as their main form of transport is decreasing in some countries. Why is this happening? What are the effects of this trend?
Sample Answer
Cycling was once a common means of transport in many countries, but its popularity has declined in recent years. This change has been caused by several factors and has created a number of negative consequences for society.
One important reason is the increasing affordability of private cars and motorcycles. As people's incomes have improved, many prefer motor vehicles because they are faster and more comfortable, particularly for long-distance travel. Another factor is the lack of safe cycling infrastructure. In many cities, there are few dedicated bicycle lanes, making cycling dangerous due to heavy traffic.
The decline in cycling has several negative effects. Firstly, it contributes to higher traffic congestion because more people rely on private vehicles. Secondly, increased use of cars leads to greater air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which damage the environment. Finally, fewer people cycling means lower levels of physical activity, increasing the risk of obesity and other health problems.
Governments can address these issues by investing in safe cycling lanes, improving road safety, and encouraging cycling through awareness campaigns.
In conclusion, declining bicycle use is mainly caused by increased vehicle ownership and inadequate infrastructure. Unless effective measures are taken, both public health and the environment are likely to suffer.
Essay 14 (Two-Part Question)
Question
Many people prefer buying ready-made food instead of cooking at home. Why is this happening? Is this a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer
Ready-made meals have become increasingly popular in recent years. Busy lifestyles and changing eating habits have encouraged many people to rely on convenience foods instead of preparing meals themselves. Although this trend offers certain advantages, I believe it is largely negative.
One reason for the growing popularity of ready-made food is that modern life has become increasingly demanding. Many people work long hours and have little time or energy to cook after returning home. In addition, food delivery services and supermarkets now offer a wide variety of affordable ready-to-eat meals, making them an attractive option.
However, relying heavily on prepared food may negatively affect people's health. Many processed meals contain excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats, increasing the risk of obesity and heart disease. Furthermore, cooking at home allows families to spend time together and develop healthier eating habits, which may gradually disappear if ready-made meals become the norm.
Although convenience foods save time, I believe their long-term impact on health and family life makes this trend more negative than positive.
In conclusion, people increasingly choose ready-made meals because of busy lifestyles and convenience. Nevertheless, I believe this development has more disadvantages than benefits.
Essay 15 (Advantages & Disadvantages)
Question
Many employers now use video interviews instead of face-to-face interviews when hiring employees. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?
Sample Answer
Technological developments have changed recruitment processes in many organisations. Today, video interviews have become increasingly common, especially for initial job screenings. This trend offers several advantages, although it also has certain disadvantages.
One major advantage is convenience. Employers can interview candidates from different cities or even countries without requiring them to travel. This reduces recruitment costs and saves time for both companies and applicants. Video interviews also allow employers to schedule interviews more flexibly and evaluate a larger number of candidates within a shorter period.
Another benefit is that applicants feel more comfortable when attending interviews from familiar surroundings. This may reduce nervousness and allow them to demonstrate their abilities more confidently.
However, video interviews have some limitations. Technical problems such as poor internet connections or software failures may interrupt communication and create unfair disadvantages for candidates. In addition, employers may find it more difficult to assess a person's body language, confidence, and interpersonal skills through a screen than during an in-person interview.
Overall, I believe video interviews are a useful development, particularly during the early stages of recruitment. However, final interviews for important positions should still be conducted face to face whenever possible.
In conclusion, video interviews provide greater flexibility and efficiency but cannot completely replace traditional interviews in every situation.
Essay 16 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that students should be allowed to evaluate their teachers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Teachers play a crucial role in shaping students' academic success and personal development. Some people believe that students should be given the opportunity to evaluate their teachers, while others argue that only school authorities should assess teaching performance. I largely agree that student feedback can be valuable if it is used appropriately.
One reason for allowing students to evaluate teachers is that they experience classroom teaching firsthand. They can provide useful feedback on whether lessons are engaging, well-organised, and easy to understand. Such feedback helps teachers identify their strengths and areas for improvement. It can also encourage teachers to adopt more effective teaching methods.
However, student evaluations should not be the only measure of a teacher's performance. Some students may provide unfair ratings based on personal preferences or disappointment with examination results. Others may lack the maturity to judge teaching quality objectively. Therefore, relying entirely on student opinions could produce inaccurate assessments.
In my opinion, student evaluations should be combined with classroom observations, examination results, and feedback from school administrators. This balanced approach provides a more reliable picture of teaching effectiveness.
In conclusion, student evaluations can contribute to improving education, but they should be considered alongside other professional assessment methods.
Essay 17 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think children should start learning a foreign language in primary school, while others believe it is better to begin in secondary school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Learning a foreign language has become increasingly important in today's globalised world. While some people believe children should begin language learning at primary school, others argue that secondary school is a more suitable stage. In my opinion, introducing foreign languages at an early age offers greater long-term benefits.
Those who support early language learning argue that young children acquire languages more naturally. They tend to develop better pronunciation and become more confident when speaking a new language. Furthermore, primary school students usually have fewer academic pressures, allowing them to enjoy language learning through games, songs, and interactive activities.
On the other hand, some believe students should begin learning foreign languages later because older learners possess stronger reading, writing, and analytical skills. Secondary school students may understand grammar rules more easily and therefore learn languages more efficiently. In addition, schools can focus on developing children's first language before introducing another one.
Despite these arguments, I believe starting earlier provides a stronger foundation. Children who begin learning a foreign language in primary school generally achieve greater fluency by adulthood because they have more years to practise and improve.
In conclusion, although secondary school students may learn grammar more quickly, introducing foreign languages during primary education is a more effective approach.
Essay 18 (Problem & Solution)
Question
Road accidents are increasing in many countries. What are the causes of this problem, and what measures can be taken to reduce accidents?
Sample Answer
Road accidents continue to cause thousands of deaths and injuries every year. Despite improvements in vehicle technology, many countries are experiencing increasing numbers of traffic accidents. This essay will discuss the main causes of this issue and suggest possible solutions.
One major cause is careless driving. Many drivers exceed speed limits, ignore traffic signals, or use mobile phones while driving, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Another important factor is poor road infrastructure. Damaged roads, inadequate street lighting, and insufficient traffic signs make driving more dangerous, particularly at night or during bad weather.
Several measures can help improve road safety. Governments should introduce stricter traffic law enforcement and impose heavier penalties for dangerous driving behaviours such as speeding and drunk driving. Installing traffic cameras and increasing police patrols may also discourage reckless driving.
In addition, authorities should invest in better road infrastructure by repairing damaged roads, improving lighting, and creating safer pedestrian crossings. Public awareness campaigns can further educate drivers about responsible driving habits.
In conclusion, careless driving and poor infrastructure are the main reasons for increasing road accidents. Stronger law enforcement and improved road conditions can significantly reduce the number of accidents.

Question
More people are choosing to shop at supermarkets rather than local markets. Why is this happening? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer
Supermarkets have become increasingly popular in many countries, gradually replacing traditional local markets. This trend has developed because of changing consumer preferences and modern lifestyles. Overall, I believe it is a positive development, although local businesses should continue to be supported.
One reason for the popularity of supermarkets is convenience. Customers can purchase groceries, household products, and personal care items in one location, saving both time and effort. Supermarkets also offer fixed prices, longer opening hours, and better parking facilities, making shopping easier for busy families.
However, this trend may negatively affect local markets. Small shop owners often struggle to compete with large supermarket chains that can offer lower prices due to bulk purchasing. As a result, some traditional businesses may close, reducing local employment opportunities and weakening community relationships.
Despite this disadvantage, supermarkets improve consumers' overall shopping experience by providing greater product variety, better hygiene standards, and more competitive prices. Governments can continue supporting local markets through financial assistance and promotional programmes.
In conclusion, supermarkets have become more popular because they offer convenience and affordability. Although local markets face challenges, I believe this trend is generally beneficial.
Essay 20 (Advantages & Disadvantages)
Question
Many schools now use tablets instead of notebooks in the classroom. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development?
Sample Answer
The increasing use of technology has changed the way students learn in schools. Many educational institutions now encourage students to use tablets instead of traditional notebooks. While this development offers several benefits, it also presents certain challenges.
One major advantage is that tablets provide instant access to a wide range of educational resources. Students can read digital textbooks, watch educational videos, and complete interactive exercises using a single device. Tablets also reduce the need to carry heavy books and notebooks, making school bags much lighter.
Another benefit is that teachers can easily distribute learning materials and monitor students' progress through digital learning platforms. This makes classroom management more efficient and supports personalised learning.
However, excessive tablet use may increase distractions. Students may be tempted to play games or browse social media during lessons if devices are not properly monitored. In addition, prolonged screen time may cause eye strain and reduce handwriting skills, which remain important in many academic settings.
In my opinion, tablets should complement rather than completely replace traditional notebooks. Combining digital technology with conventional learning methods provides students with the greatest educational benefits.
In conclusion, although tablets improve accessibility and classroom efficiency, schools should maintain a balanced approach to ensure students continue developing essential academic skills.
Essay 21 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that students should take a gap year after finishing high school before entering university. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Taking a gap year before university has become increasingly popular among young people. Some believe this period helps students gain valuable life experience, while others think it delays their education unnecessarily. I generally agree that taking a gap year can be beneficial if it is used wisely.
One of the main advantages of a gap year is that students have the opportunity to gain practical experience. They may travel, volunteer, or work part-time, allowing them to develop communication, problem-solving, and time management skills. These experiences often make students more mature and independent before they begin higher education.
Another benefit is that a gap year allows students to think carefully about their future careers. Many school graduates are uncertain about which subject they should study at university. Spending time exploring different interests can help them make better academic and career decisions.
However, taking a gap year also has some disadvantages. Some students may lose their motivation to continue studying after spending a year away from education. Others may become financially comfortable through work and decide not to attend university at all.
In my opinion, a well-planned gap year provides valuable personal development that can improve future academic performance. However, students should have clear goals rather than treating it simply as a long holiday.
In conclusion, I believe taking a gap year is a positive choice for many students, provided they use the time productively.
Essay 22 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think children should participate in organised sports, while others believe free play is more beneficial. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Physical activity is essential for children's development, but opinions differ on the best way for them to stay active. While some people support organised sports, others believe free play offers greater benefits. In my opinion, both are valuable, but organised sports provide more long-term advantages.
Supporters of organised sports argue that children learn discipline, teamwork, and leadership through structured activities. Sports such as football, basketball, and cricket teach young people how to cooperate with others and work towards common goals. They also encourage regular exercise and healthy competition.
On the other hand, free play allows children to be creative and independent. They can invent games, solve problems naturally, and make their own decisions without constant supervision. This type of play also reduces pressure, allowing children to enjoy physical activity purely for fun.
Although free play is important during childhood, I believe organised sports better prepare children for adult life by developing communication skills, responsibility, and perseverance. Ideally, children should have opportunities to enjoy both types of activities.
In conclusion, while free play contributes to creativity and independence, organised sports provide broader educational and social benefits that make them slightly more valuable.
Essay 23 (Problem & Solution)
Question
Many people today suffer from poor sleep. What are the causes of this problem, and what solutions can be suggested?
Sample Answer
Getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. However, an increasing number of people struggle with poor sleeping habits. This problem is mainly caused by modern lifestyles, but several effective solutions are available.
One significant cause is excessive screen time before bedtime. Many people spend hours using smartphones, watching television, or working on computers late at night. The blue light produced by electronic devices interferes with natural sleep patterns, making it difficult to fall asleep.
Another contributing factor is work-related stress. Busy schedules, financial concerns, and family responsibilities often leave people feeling anxious, preventing them from relaxing before bedtime.
To improve sleep quality, individuals should establish a regular sleeping routine and avoid electronic devices for at least an hour before going to bed. Regular exercise and a healthy diet can also improve sleep. Employers can contribute by promoting a healthy work-life balance and reducing unnecessary workplace stress.
Public health campaigns may also help educate people about the importance of proper sleep and healthy daily habits.
In conclusion, poor sleep is mainly caused by technology use and stressful lifestyles. By adopting healthier routines and reducing stress, people can significantly improve their sleep quality.
Essay 24 (Two-Part Question)
Question
More young people are becoming interested in starting their own businesses instead of working for large companies. Why is this happening? Is this a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer
Entrepreneurship has become increasingly attractive to young people in recent years. Rather than seeking traditional employment, many prefer starting their own businesses. I believe this trend is mainly driven by changing career expectations and technological opportunities, and overall it is a positive development.
One reason for this trend is the growth of digital technology. Starting an online business has become easier than ever, requiring relatively little investment compared to traditional businesses. Social media, e-commerce platforms, and digital marketing have created opportunities for young entrepreneurs to reach customers worldwide.
Another reason is that many young people value independence. Running a business allows them to make their own decisions, choose flexible working hours, and pursue their personal interests. They also have the opportunity to earn higher incomes if their businesses become successful.
Of course, entrepreneurship involves financial risks and uncertainty. New businesses may fail due to competition or poor planning, leaving owners with financial losses. Nevertheless, even unsuccessful entrepreneurs often gain valuable experience that benefits their future careers.
In conclusion, young people are increasingly attracted to entrepreneurship because of technological advances and greater career flexibility. Despite the risks involved, I believe this trend has a positive impact on innovation and economic growth.
Essay 25 (Advantages & Disadvantages)
Question
Many companies now allow employees to work a four-day week instead of five days. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development?
Sample Answer
A growing number of organisations have introduced four-day working weeks to improve employee satisfaction and productivity. While this policy offers several benefits, it also creates certain challenges for businesses and workers.
One major advantage is that employees enjoy a better work-life balance. Having an extra day off each week allows people to spend more time with their families, pursue hobbies, and rest properly. As a result, many employees return to work feeling more motivated and productive.
Another benefit is improved mental health. Reduced working hours may lower stress levels and decrease employee burnout, leading to higher job satisfaction and lower staff turnover. Companies may also attract talented professionals by offering more flexible working arrangements.
However, a shorter working week may not be suitable for every industry. Businesses that provide essential services, such as hospitals or customer support centres, may struggle to maintain operations without hiring additional staff. Some employees may also need to work longer hours during the remaining four days, which could become tiring.
In my opinion, a four-day working week can be highly successful if implemented carefully and adapted to the needs of different industries.
In conclusion, although shorter working weeks present some operational challenges, they offer significant benefits for employee well-being and workplace productivity.
Essay 26 (Opinion Essay)
Question
Some people believe that governments should limit the amount of time children spend on social media. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
Social media has become an important part of children's daily lives. While these platforms allow young people to communicate and access information, many believe governments should limit the amount of time children spend using them. I largely agree with this opinion because excessive social media use can negatively affect children's development.
One reason is that spending too much time on social media often reduces the time available for studying, exercising, and interacting with family members. Many children become distracted by endless videos and online conversations, leading to lower academic performance and unhealthy lifestyles.
Another concern is children's mental health. Social media can expose young users to cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and unrealistic lifestyles presented by influencers. Constant comparison with others may reduce self-confidence and increase feelings of anxiety or loneliness.
However, social media also has educational benefits. Students can use these platforms to access learning materials, communicate with classmates, and develop digital skills that are increasingly important in modern society. Therefore, a complete ban would not be appropriate.
In my opinion, governments should introduce age-appropriate regulations and encourage parents to monitor their children's online activities rather than banning social media completely.
In conclusion, limiting children's social media use is a sensible approach because it protects their health and education while still allowing them to benefit from technology.
Essay 27 (Discuss Both Views)
Question
Some people think that famous celebrities make good role models for young people, while others believe they have a negative influence. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer
Celebrities have a strong influence on society, especially among young people. While some believe famous people inspire younger generations to achieve success, others argue that they encourage unrealistic lifestyles and poor behaviour. In my opinion, celebrities can be positive role models if they use their influence responsibly.
Those who support celebrities argue that many successful athletes, actors, and entrepreneurs inspire young people through hard work and determination. Their achievements motivate others to pursue ambitious goals and overcome challenges. Some celebrities also support charitable organisations and raise awareness about important social issues.
On the other hand, critics believe that some celebrities promote unhealthy lifestyles by displaying excessive wealth, irresponsible behaviour, or unrealistic beauty standards. Young people who admire these public figures may develop unrealistic expectations or imitate negative habits.
In my opinion, parents and teachers should help young people choose role models carefully. Celebrities who demonstrate integrity, discipline, and social responsibility deserve admiration, whereas those who behave irresponsibly should not be considered examples to follow.
In conclusion, celebrities can have both positive and negative influences, but their overall impact depends largely on the values they promote.
Essay 28 (Cause & Effect)
Question
The number of people reading newspapers is declining. Why is this happening? What effects will this have on society?
Sample Answer
Traditional newspapers have experienced a significant decline in readership over the past two decades. This trend has mainly resulted from technological developments and changing reading habits, and it has both positive and negative consequences.
One major reason is the widespread availability of online news. People can access breaking news instantly through websites, mobile applications, and social media without paying for printed newspapers. Furthermore, smartphones have made digital news more convenient because readers can stay informed wherever they are.
Another reason is that younger generations generally prefer short videos and online content rather than lengthy newspaper articles. As a result, printed newspapers have gradually become less attractive to many readers.
The decline of newspapers has several consequences. On the positive side, people can now receive news much more quickly. However, online information is not always accurate, and false news spreads rapidly through social media. In addition, the decline of traditional newspapers has created financial difficulties for many professional journalists and publishing companies.
In conclusion, newspapers are becoming less popular because digital media offers greater convenience. Although this provides faster access to information, it also creates challenges related to misinformation and journalism.
Essay 29 (Two-Part Question)
Question
Many people choose to move to another country to improve their quality of life. Why do people make this decision? What difficulties might they face?
Sample Answer
International migration has become increasingly common as people search for better opportunities abroad. Individuals choose to leave their home countries for various reasons, although adapting to a new country often presents significant challenges.
One of the main reasons people migrate is to secure better employment opportunities. Higher salaries, improved working conditions, and stronger economies attract skilled workers from developing countries. Others move abroad to receive a better education or access higher-quality healthcare for themselves and their families.
Despite these advantages, migrants often face several difficulties. Language barriers can make communication challenging, particularly during the first few months. Cultural differences may also create misunderstandings or make it difficult to build friendships. In addition, many migrants experience homesickness because they are separated from family members and familiar surroundings.
Although adapting to a new country can be difficult, many migrants gradually overcome these challenges by learning the local language and integrating into their new communities.
In conclusion, people migrate to improve their career prospects and living standards, but they often encounter language, cultural, and emotional challenges during the adjustment process.
Essay 30 (Advantages & Disadvantages)
Question
Many businesses are using robots to perform jobs that were previously done by humans. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development?
Sample Answer
Robots are becoming increasingly common in factories, warehouses, hospitals, and even restaurants. Many businesses now rely on automation to improve efficiency. While this trend offers considerable benefits, it also creates several challenges.
One major advantage is increased productivity. Robots can work continuously without becoming tired, allowing companies to produce goods more quickly and accurately. They are also capable of performing dangerous tasks, reducing workplace accidents and improving employee safety.
Another benefit is lower operating costs over time. Although purchasing robotic systems requires significant investment, businesses can reduce long-term labour costs and improve product quality through consistent performance.
However, automation may result in job losses for workers performing routine tasks. Employees without technical skills may struggle to find alternative employment, increasing unemployment in certain industries. Furthermore, businesses become more dependent on technology, and technical failures may disrupt production.
In my opinion, robots should be used to assist rather than completely replace human workers. Governments and employers should also invest in training programmes that help workers develop new skills suitable for the changing job market.
In conclusion, although automation presents employment challenges, its ability to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity makes it an overall positive development when managed responsibly.
